| The New Order, also called the Imperial Period, lasted from the Declaration of a New Order in 19 BBY - the transition of the democratic Galactic Republic into autocratic Imperial rule - to the outbreak of the Galactic Civil War around 5 BBY. The period was characterized by the beginning and later rule of the Galactic Empire and the establishment of Palpatine's New Order, giving the period its name.
